juan circled & album
December 16, 2008

Progress continues toward the forthcoming CP album with Juan Circled finally mixed down and uploaded. This song has been part of CP's set for some time and P & S believe this recording captures the melodic structure and melancholy feel of the song well. Planning for the album is now at a fairly advanced point, with a tentative title, track listing and artwork concept. One of Brisbane's most promising young visual artists is also on-board to create images for the package, which we will preview on this site. Release currently looks like being somewhere around April or May 2009, depending on how trouble-free the remaining recording sessions turn out to be.
As you may know, most new recordings are uploaded to this site as they are completed, but some people have reported difficulty getting the songs to open in their media player. If you are one of these people you may like to check out CP's page on last.fm. Last.fm is an English music networking site that contains all CP studio recordings. Joining last.fm will also give you the dubious benefit of hearing other bands that are considered stylistically similar to CP.
not a Lou Reed cover !!
November 16, 2008

A new studio recoding of "Fall in Love with Me" has just been posted on the media page. It's chunky, loud and hummable and has more mellotron goodness in the bridge. Here's an anecdote about this song from Pete:
"I came up with the basic bass riff for this song at a friend's place, just mucking around on the e-string of an acoustic. It sounded like a slacker's love song to me ... sort of like Dinosaur Jr trying to emulate the Bay City Rollers. So I wrote what I imagine a slacker's love song might sound like. After I'd completed a first demo and posted it on the interweb, someone wrote and said I must be a fan of Lou Reed, because this song sounds exactly like a Lou Reed song.
I've never owned any Lou Reed albums, so I replied, "no - it's just a coincidence". About a week later I received another communication telling me that this song is a Lou Reed rip off. My interest was piqued and I started downloading things, trying to find the Lou Reed song I'd ripped off. Eventually I came across "Sweet Jane".
So, this song does share the repetitive bass line from Sweet Jane. It's about the simplest bass line you could imagine - C-C-C-C-C-G, F. Given it's simplicity it's not surprising that it's in another song. In fact it's probably in a thousand other songs, but I haven't heard any of them."
wildlife documentaries completed
October 19, 2008

Our latest recording; "wildlife documentaries" has been a long time in the making. For us it has been a jigsaw puzzle - one of those really big ones with lots of parts that are hard to put together, but very satisfying once they're done. Well, it is finally finished and we're happy with it.
Mac plays some nice vintage-sounding mellotron, and there is a pretty kick-ass solo from Sam right at the end.

cartoon physics legitimised!
October 8, 2008

If you're Australian and were born before 2000 you might remember the late great Big Kev.
Big Kev was a minor TV celeb who was famous for his lurid Aussie shirts, and for his catchphrase: "I'm Excited!!!"
Well Kev ... big fella, we here at cartoonphysics.net can finally relate to you because - like you - we now are also excited ... by the news that the blind fingers ep is now downloadable from the ubiquitous iTunes. In a strange way we feel this bonding with the online retail giant has somehow legitimised us ... as though sharing a marketplace with the likes of Akon and Rihanna moves us half-a-centimetre away from our current utter obscurity and a corresponding half-a-centimetre closer to the glory that is the mainstream.
hiding place
September 22, 2008

A new recording: "Hiding Place" was uploaded today to the media page.
This recording might confound anyone who thinks they're starting to get a handle on the "cartoon physics sound". It does contain the requisite "wall of noise" in the second half, but apart from that its not so typical of our sound. It features brushed swing percussion with a sort of jazzy feel.
It is about the ghosts of people that used to be in your life.
Enjoy.
